Aloe Succotrina. These bright little sunbirds that flash their metalic colours as they flit from plant to plant are such a joy to behold. Here one sits on an Aloe succotrina. The orange breasted sunbird and the aloe are endemic to the Cape Floral Kingdom which is the smallest but one of the world's most diverse and abundant floral areas. I loved drawing this picture. The fleshy rounded leaves contrasting with the sharp thorns and the crisp paper-like quality of the dark purple dried leaves that hang down at the base and the gloriously rich coral, orange and green of the flowers.
