Sugar Bush. Native to South Africa, there are few plants as well ingrained in our history as the spectacular Sugar bush protea. I delight in the shape of the flowers and the Fibonacci spirals you can find in the arrangement of the bracts. I've used pen and ink in this drawing to accentuate the form.
Interesting fact; An essential component of 19th Century medicine chests in the Cape was bossiestroop (bush syrup) which was made from nectar collected from the sugar bush and used as a sweetener or cough syrup.
